In celebration of Women’s History Month, Advantus would like to highlight Anne Mitchell, Director of Supply Chain at Mercy Health — West Hospital.
Why do you love being supply chain for the health care industry?
When I first took the manager position, I didn’t know much about Supply Chain. However, the last two years have really proven how integral supply chain is to the success of any organization, especially health care. I love the daily challenges and feeling like I am helping to make a difference in the healthcare industry.
What are you most excited for in your future at Advantus Health Partners?
Advantus Health Partners is essentially a startup company within a larger organization. It is exciting to see the structure coming together and the direction we are headed as we work through the bumps along the road. There is a lot of growth coming down the road and I think our new leadership team will help to build a strong company moving forward.
What would you tell other women earlier in their supply chain career that you think would be particularly valuable for them to know?
Supply chain is still a male-dominated sector, but I would tell young women not to be intimidated (coming from a woman who is early in her supply chain career). Women tend to be strong at planning ahead and anticipating the next steps which are exactly what is needed in logistics and operations. There are a lot of valuable skill sets that a woman can bring to this field to help change the game. If COVID has taught us anything, it’s that the old ways of thinking through Supply Chain logistics and operations must be adapted to be successful long-term.
