Meet Lucy Giesler, a Surgical Navigator with Advantus who thrives on tackling challenges head-on. Lucy joined Advantus in 2021, inspired by a friend in the same position who shared the unique aspects of the role.
As a Surgical Navigator, Lucy plays a crucial role in the creation and maintenance of surgeon preference cards. Her responsibilities extend to direct observation in operating rooms, collaboration with clinical staff, surgeons and vendors.
Rising to Health Care Challenges
Lucy embraces the dynamic nature of her role. Beyond crafting and sustaining surgeon preference cards, she actively contributes to supply chain projects, addressing SKU reductions, waste management, cost analysis and inventory control. Lucy is also at the forefront of new surgeon onboarding and various other projects as the need arises.
“It is ever-changing and challenging,” shared Lucy. “I like the challenge!”
Continuous Learning for Exceptional Patient Outcomes
Lucy’s role demands continuous learning about modern medicine, a pursuit she finds crucial for enhancing patient care. Her work significantly impacts how patients are cared for and shapes their experiences within health organizations.
“I enjoy researching procedures and using that knowledge to create the ‘script’ or preference card, which drives procedural preparation,” says Lucy.
Her commitment to achieving positive patient outcomes through her behind-the-scenes contributions is the most rewarding aspect of her role. Lucy’s dedication does not go unnoticed. One of her clients, Supply Chain Supervisor Matthew Shepard at Mercy Health, shared a warm thank you for Lucy.

Lucy’s decision to change careers has led her to a profession where she makes a meaningful difference every day.
“Changing careers was bold, but it was the best move I’ve ever made,” said Lucy. “I found my true passion in this job.”
